If you’re living for schlocky 1970s disaster movies, then grab the next cab to off-Broadway’s St. Luke’s Theatre, where the pop, rock and disco musical Disaster!—based on favorite disaster movies—returns for another run beginning October 14, 2013. Opening night is set for November 4.
Tony nominee Mary Testa (Xanadu) will star alongside Tom Riis Farrell (Coram Boy), Michele Ragusa (Young Frankenstein), Jennifer Simard (Sister Act) and Seth Rudetsky in the musical, written by Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, who also directs. Additional casting will be announced soon.
Disaster! is set on a summer night in Manhattan in 1979 and follows a group of NYC A-listers who party at the grand opening of a floating casino/disco—until disaster strikes. Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos, killer bees, rats, sharks, and piranhas all threaten the guests, who sing some of the biggest hits of the ‘70s including “Hot Stuff,” “I Am Woman,” “Knock on Wood” and more. Disaster! ran in 2012 at the Triad uptown.
The creative team for Disaster! includes choreographer Denis Jones, set and lighting designer Josh Iacovelli and musical director Larry Pressgrove.
